Google’s mobile strategy announced

With all the rumors and talks about Google’s upcoming foray into the mobile space, I have just about heard of all kinds of reasons for a Gphone. Well, I don’t have to wait no more. Google has just announced it’s plans for the mobile space and it looks like we’re heading towards a disruption in the mobile industry.

Google didn’t just announced a brand new phone, they announced a whole new mobile platform that is open for everybody to use. The open mobile platform includes all the software that is needed in making a mobile device. This is a big boost since a sizeable amount of capital investment is for creating the software needed to operate a mobile phone.

The open mobile platform, called Android, includes an operating system (based on the open-source Linux kernel), middleware and basic set of applications. Google has also developed a set of libraries and tools that makes it easy to create mobile applications.

I’m very excited about this new announcement since I believe that this may be the biggest push that the mobile industry can have today to benefit us users. Imagine a mobile phone that I can truly customize to my needs. If I wanted to replace your mobile phone’s messaging application because it’s just not good enough and there’s something better — I can do it!

What’s also great about Google’s open mobile platform is that big mobile industry players world wide has bonded together and formed the Open Handset Alliance to further it’s adoption.

The coming months will really be exciting to see how the Android open mobile platform will change the mobile industry. I just can’t wait to see how the first android-based mobile phone will look and feel like.
