There was a time when I can spend some moments on the irc networks. I’ve made some friends back then. I have lost contact since and began to wonder what happened to them so I decided to do some googling and see if I can find a Java midlet that does irc.

I found one J2ME irc client that’s called WLirc. I quickly looked at the supported phones to find out if the Nokia N80 is listed. Aha! I quickly downloaded it and installed it on the phone to try it out.

After some fiddling and experimentation, I finally figured out how to use it. I configured a server and would you believe? I got connected. I don’t know if I will ever be fast enough to tap on the numeric keypad of my mobile phone to keep chatting but at least it works (hmm… may be it’s time I get one of those keyboard equipped mobile phones or should I wait for one of those Android-based HTC PDA mobile phone).

Anyway, if you wanna try it yourself, you can download the Java midlet at the WLirc page. It’s open-source and it’s free.
