Apple has released Java 6 SE Developer Preview 8 for it’s Mac OS X Leopard operating system. This should be good news to Java developer’s who have long been waiting for the official release.

It has been a long time waiting. Mac OS X is the only major consumer operating system that comes complete with a fully configured and ready-to-use Java runtime and development environment but Java 6 support for it’s Leopard version of Mac OS X has been delayed for quite some time.

But this should be good news and I personally hope that Apple will be able to release a final version before I decided to buy my next notebook.

The Java SE 6 release for Leopard is targeted at Java developers. This version of Java for Mac OS X requires an Intel-based Mac capable of running 64-bit applications, including computers with Core 2 Duo processors and any Mac Pro computer. Java SE 6 takes advantage of Leopard’s 64-bit capabilities to offer unique performance capabilities for current and future generations of Macs.
