Gameloft Prince of Persia Classic screen 1Prince of Persia (POP) is truly a classic and wonderful game. For those of you who have played Prince of Persia way back, the Java mobile game version of Prince of Persia from Gameloft is still a great game to play. Now, I won’t be needing a desktop or notebook computer or a game console just to play it.

After getting a copy of the Prince of Persia Classic Java mobile game, I didn’t spare any time in trying the mobile game to find out how it compares to the different Prince of Persia game versions I have played before.

The mobile game is based on the classic 1989 version of Prince of Persia plus some additional features that makes the mobile game version unique. I took the game for a spin by playing a couple of levels.

I quickly noticed that the mobile version of Prince of Persia still have those movements that make it unique as a game. I found that the mobile game version’s prince character still has that smooth body movement when it stops at the edge of a structure. Gameloft has done a great job at recreating the classic 1989 game especially the movements of the prince. Controlling the movements using the cell phone keys is great and easy.

While I was playing POP it got me thinking about how the graphics of this mobile game has really showed how much you can experience visually on a mobile phone. I paused for a moment to stare at the display. The graphic detail is impressive on the 320×240 display screen of the Sony Ericsson K810. Attention to detail has been given even on the way the torch lights shines and flickers.

The Java mobile game features several game modes and new options for beginners like instructions and the unique butterfly guide to help you find the right way. There’s also an accessible mini-map that gets revealed part by part while you explore the currently being played level. But you can also get a copy of the complete map if you find the right object on the game. There are also several checkpoints or save points within the game level. The checkpoints allow you to continue the game at that point in case you end up being killed or falling into a trap.

As you go through the maze with all it’s spikes and traps, you’ll have to rescue the princess before the 60-minute time-clock runs out. And lest I forget you will also have to deal with engaging enemies in a sword fight along the way.

That should give you enough tips to get you going, as for me, I’m going back to playing the mobile game :-) Gameloft has done a great job of continuing the tradition of the timeless Prince of Persia game. It has passed on the same (if not exceeded) level of simplicity and excitement unique to Prince of Persia to the next gaming platform — the mobile phone.
