Kobe Bryant Pro Basketball 2008 mobile game

Kobe Bryant Pro Basketball 2008 coverHaving a bit of a flu during the past week has made me spent some time in bed. Well at least I get a bit of time to play the Kobe Bryant Pro Basketball 2008 mobile game from Gameloft. At first, I thought being able to play basketball on my mobile phone was going to be a bit of a challenge.

When I started playing Gameloft’s Kobe Bryant Pro Basketball 2008 mobile game, I found out that it was actually fun and exciting. And it is quite addicting. If you’re a fan of Basketball games on the PC or a game console.

Try the game, not the same level of graphics as the PC or console but hey you’d be able to play it even on a bus on your way to work or school. Well that’s assuming you have a Java-enabled mobile phone of course.

I was actually surprised that the mobile game has a lot of features. From playing instant play, exhibition, challenge mode to a full basketball season. The features doesn’t stop there, you can choose your own line up of players and even set the time it takes for a game quarter.

In season mode, you start the game by choosing your own team (or should I say franchise). The mobile game even provides some statistics like 2-point shot / 3-point percentages, rebounds, speed, defense for each team to sort of help out in deciding which team you want. Do I get a defensive team or an offensive team as a style of playing?

After choosing the team, you set the level of difficulty, auto-replay, quarter time, matches, playoffs and some advanced settings. The advanced settings are for configuring the game as to whether you want certain basketball rules, say a 3-second violation or charging foul to take effect during the game.

Then you’re off to the start of the season, you get a map of the US and a menu that lets you start your schedule match and view some stats on things like rankings during the season.

The game play in Kobe Bryant Pro Basketball 2008 mobile game is very entertaining and you’ll probably want to play the game to the end of the full season. I wonder if it will really be a full season before I finish this one. ;-)

At the start of the match, you can choose your player line up and default defense formation strategy. I leave this one up to the pros, I just chose the default and head on to the game itself.

After some practice on the d-pad, I got the hang of it and well I was off into my season. I’m one of those who’d like to play several games during the course of the day but had to change all that and play the basketball game on my mobile phone for the last several days (and to think I had a flu, it’s a good thing that I don’t have to perspire a lot on this basketball game).

The game graphics was actually quite good and details were taken into consideration — even the scoreboard display that you see on the top of the basketball court is complete with snapshots of what is happening on the court (good detail on this one).

Overall the game is very good and I’d recommend you try it. Still haven’t finish my season so if you buy the game, maybe we can compare stats on how we did during the season.

Note: I’ve just thought of this idea of having a multi-player basketball game on the Internet. Maybe Gameloft, the creator of the Kobe Bryant Pro Basketball 2008, would want create a multiplayer version wherein people could group together and play match-ups on the Internet instead of playing against the computer mobile phone. Or maybe over bluetooth. How about it Gameloft?
