With the recent release of the software development kit (SDK) for the Apple iPhone, Sun has announced it’s plan to come up with a Java virtual machine (JVM) for the iPhone.

Eric Klein, Java Marketing vice president, has announced Sun’s plan to create a JVM for the iPhone mobile platform.

Now this is something that I would like to see happen. It is going to open up a wide possibility of mobile games on the iPhone platform at probably record breaking speed. With the wide selection of Java mobile games currently available, at least 5 million iPhone users will benefit from the J2ME JVM port to the iPhone.

Porting a J2ME JVM on the iPhone shouldn’t be all that hard considering that the iPhone uses an ARM processor but what would make the availability interesting would be an API to the touch interface of the iPhone. The new interface is something new that I think developers can use to create a more immersive gaming experience.
