Lots of news and forum talk about Google and HTC’s upcoming mobile phone the HTC Dream. From the looks of it, the cell phone will have a 528mhz CPU from Qualcomm.
I’ve been waiting for the release of the first Android mobile phone and now that the release is just at least 2 months away, I would love to see what’s going to be included.
Here is my dream specs for the first Android mobile phone that should come out on the market:

I think this is what the first Android mobile phone should really look like — this is more closer to being a “dream” phone. And let’s not forget the specs:
- 528Mhz CPU (should be just fine, with Linux as OS that should be more than enough)
- 128 ROM / 128 RAM (128 RAM is actually a lot for a mobile device optimized version of Linux)
- 8GB storage (with external expansion for more) — must be enough to store a lot music/photos/videos ‘coz i don’t wanna have to bring a separate iPod along with it.
- HSDPA, UMTS, GPRS, EDGE, wifi, bluetooth (A2DP is a must), infrared (optional)
- 3.5mm audio socket (no mini’s pls.), video out
- 3D graphics chip, joypad (should be 8-point not just 4 and please try to make sure it’s going to be made just right, lots of people will be using it for games)
- Qwerty keyboard will slide touch screen (keyboard is still necessary i believe until someone comes up with tactile touch screens that doesn’t smudge then you can replace the area where the keyboard is located)
- Dedicated buttons for camera, music player (and can someone put something like Amarok on Android — would be nice)
- 2 cameras (main camera at least 3.15 megapixels, secondary at least VGA, please please please let there be REAL 30fps video not just on paper, AUTO-FOCUS is a MUST with GOOD FLASH, with this kind of phone)
- Screen resolution should be at least 640 x 480 but it would really be nice to have at least 800 x 480 and at least 262k colors
- Power juice has always been an issue, this one should have at least 12 hours of music playing time or 4 hours of video with at least enough juice left to connect to the internet and make phone calls
- Sound should be stereo with playback support for MP3, MP4, AAC and OGG
- Video should support 3GPP, streaming, MPEG4, plus FLV
- Graphics should support PNG (ANG - animated png would be nice), GIF (also animated), JPG, BMP
- Web browser should support HTML, WAP push, XHTML, Javascript (no limitations pls), flash
- Messagging — googletalk (of course), Yahoo, AIM, MSN, Jabber, SMS, MMS, IRC, Email, POP, IMAP,SMTP, support for secured ports, support for GPG/PGP built-in (can someone please put all of this together in one “place”/software)
I don’t know if I’m missing anything but last SYNC/APP Install support on Linux and MacOSX and not just Windows. And i hope that sync will not just be for Google Apps.
Put that all in and I don’t have to buy a EEEPC and iTouch and I can just use the Ultimate
Android.
Hell, I might even forget I have a notebook and just leave it at home.
