Just to remind some of you who may not have registered for the upcoming Mobile World Congress this year. The event which is usually a time when most people in the mobile industry meet and launch new products looks exciting this year. The event is scheduled on Feb 16-19, 2009 at beautiful Barcelona, Spain – wish I could go, maybe next year :-)

This year’s even promises to be even better with the mobile industry heading towards open mobile platforms. It should really be interesting to see what new Android phones will be launched during the event. And also be able to look at new stuff that the Limo Foundation has to offer. Although the two platforms are both Linux, I think they compliment each other with the Limo platform being optimized for non-high end mobile phones. While the Android open mobile platform is geared towards high end devices that features bigger displays and other high end features.

Some of this year’s keynote speakers include:

  • Cesar Alierta, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer, Telefonica
  • Vittorio Colao, Chief Executive, Vodafone
  • Olli Pekka Kallasvuo, President and Chief Executive Officer, Nokia
  • Ralph de la Vega, President & Chief Executive Officer, AT&T Mobility
  • Simon Beresford-Wylie, Chief Executive Officer, Nokia Siemens Networks
  • Paul Jacobs, Chief Executive Officer, Qualcomm

You can get more information from the Mobile World Congress web site.
