I’ve just read an announcement that the Android SDK 1.5 will be released around the end of the month. In the mean time developers can get access to a pre-release version to enable them to start using the Android SDK 1.5 during development. It looks like a bunch of Cupcake mods will be made available in SDK 1.5 of Android. Some of the new features in Android SDK 1.5 include soft keyboards, home screen widgets, live folders, and speech recognition.

The Android development team has just made available version 1.1 release 1 of the Android SDK. This is inline with the recent updates to Android devices providing new features and functionality. API changes are quite minor. Several items have been fixed, some new features for the Map and dialer have been added, plus several API changes. You can check out the release notes.

Opera Mini for the Android open mobile platform finally gets released. Opera offers web browsers in different platforms that include desktop PCs and other mobile phones. Now have an alternative web browser on your Android cell phone. You can download the Opera Mini 4.2 web browser for Android based mobile phones from the Opera download site.

Eversince Google released the Android open mobile platform SDK, they have a plugin for Eclipse that enables developers to create Android applications under Eclipse. But that didn’t stop some guys to create an equivalent Android SDK plugin for Netbeans. The project has been continued since then.

A private group of developers called “cupcake” is poised to merge into the next release of Google Android a bunch of fixes, changes and enhancements. Google is in the process of merging the private branch into mainstream that will take the changes into the public mainstream. I’m particularly happy to hear that video capture and A2DP bluetooth will now be available.
