While I was Googling to read about what other people have say about Android, I came across the blog of Simon Moris and his article about Android. He provides a very clear and simple explanation what Android is and goes on to ask “Is Android ‘Java’?”

Mobile Java or J2ME has been around for some time. It has it’s pros and cons but it is quite mature and secure as a mobile phone software development platform. The NetBeans guys have been doing quite a lot of great stuff in providing an IDE that’s “the only IDE you will ever need” (in my case this is still not true since I use Eclipse for creating PHP software).

Google has just released an update of their Android Open Mobile Platform SDK. Android is an open mobile platform that will be available for mobile phones soon and Google has released the software development kit under the Apache license. The SDK is available for the Linux, MacOS X (intel) and Windows operating systems.

The $10,000,000 prize money has created quite a stir among Java developers. It is very interesting to know what kind of ingenious software that will emerge as winners in Google’s Android Developer Challenge. Google very well understands that developer acceptance is key to the widespread use of the Android open mobile platform. I for one have my ideas on what would be a cool software to see getting developed for the Android platform.

Well, my wait for the Android SDK has ended. As soon as I saw that the Android SDK was already available for download, I immediately got a copy. You should go and get a copy if you still haven’t got a one.

Up to now Apple has not supported Java on it’s iPhone and the newest MacOSX — Leopard. What could be the reason behind the delay? Apple has announced that they will be coming out with an SDK for their iPhone soon! Do you know what the SDK looks like?
